This suggests that, while the Asian environment appears to be protective against food allergy, Australian-born Asian children are at much higher of risk of food allergies. This may be due to a multitude of pre-, perinatal and post-natal factors, including changes in diet, bacterial and UV exposure.

HealthNuts is a large, population-based study, which reported that Melbourne has the highest prevalence of immediate food allergy in the world, with approximately 10 per cent of 1 year old children having either egg (9%) or peanut (3%) allergy.
